Polyphonic Ne(s)t – the closing site-specific performance
Polyphonic Ne(s)t – the closing site-specific performance of a creative process with a multicultural group at Plac Hallera – asks what happens between bodies that are not tuned to the same pitch. Polyphony carries several voices at once, none of them an accompaniment: no single voice the others follow, and where the voices rub against each other, that friction belongs to the structure rather than breaking it. How does a body find its own frequency? How do you stay yourself and still belong? What does a square sound like when ten people read it at once? How much weight can be handed over before someone has to put it down?
The work begins inside the body – breath, ribs, the vibration a voice sets off in bone – and opens outward onto a square that is already polyphonic: a fountain, a graduation tower, a rope structure named magic nests, a supermarket, birds, fighter jets. None of it was designed together, and it coexists anyway. Polyphony can be treated as a practice in listening without resolving: in noticing how weight moves between people, how a sound travels along a rope, how safety is something bodies keep making for each other, and misreading, and making again.
